Well, where do I start… My best friend Ellie. If I could describe Ellie in one word I’d describe her as a sunrise. When I think of a sunrise, not only does it represent beauty and new beginnings, I also see brightness, adventure, optimism, and endless possibilities of where the day could go. That’s how I see Ellie. When Ellie walks into a room she brightens it up. And I’m not just saying that to be all cliche, she honestly has this ability to make anyone laugh. Her laugh is contagious and it’s as if she has this glow around her and with each person she meets she passes this on. I won’t lie when I say Ellie can talk! It’s one of my favourite things about her. She might talk at 1000mph and go off on 12 different tangents and explore 15 different topics all in the space of 5 minutes, but that’s what makes Ellie so amazing. She is the most energetic person I know and has an excitement and lust for life which is unmatched. Her optimism for life is admirable and she reminds me to take advantage of every opportunity life has in store.

You’ll have read in Ellie’s introductory post that she’ll be moving to Australia this year. If I think about it too much I’ll cry because I’m going to miss her so much. BUT I’m so, so proud of her! The fact she’s throwing herself out of her comfort zone, and moving to a whole different country to live her life to the fullest, is amazing. I think we should all take a leaf out of Ellie’s book. If something isn’t serving you, change it. No matter how scary it might feel, put your happiness first. There’s more to life!
Throughout school EVERYONE got on with Ellie. She has this kind and caring nature which just comes so naturally to her. Always willing to help and go the extra mile for people. Anytime I need advice or someone to vent to, she’s there in a heartbeat. If I send her text saying I’ve had a bad day, I know she’ll send me either a long paragraph or a 10 minute long voice note of encouragement.
If you ask me, my best friend is the coolest person ever. Not only is she super smart (she would always get such high scores in every single class in school, I always thought how the hell does she do it!) but she is also incredibly beautiful inside and out and has THE BEST sense of style! If I ever need fashion advice I know where to go.
Ellie inspires me to face my fears and overcome my anxious thoughts on a daily basis. I struggle sometimes to do things like take myself for a coffee or go out on a walk by myself for example. These might seem like simple things to do, but when your brain can’t tell the difference between getting a coffee and getting chased by a tiger, it can be difficult sometimes! To me Ellie does these things so effortlessly. Whilst I know she might be feeling anxious when she’s doing these things, the fact she feels what she feels and just does it anyway honestly leaves me in awe. One recent example is the gym. We both have major gym anxiety particularly when it comes to the weights section. Not only was she able to overcome her anxiety and train in the weights section by herself but she also filmed herself to send this to her PT… again I’m in awe. I literally would’ve cried. She has recently just inspired me to get back into running. Something which I’ve been wanting to do but felt too anxious and self conscious about. I have thoughts like ‘people will definitely know I don’t usually run’, ‘do I look funny running’, ‘do they think I’m going too slow’ etc. Following Ellie’s running journey and seeing her run a 10k race and absolutely smash a PB made me so proud of her. We send each other pages of voice notes and she is always encouraging me to get back into running. She’ll say ‘nobody cares what you look like, nobody knows how far you are running’ and she says it with the upmost positivity and motivation. Ellie is one of my biggest supporters and I’ll always be so grateful for her.
Ellie said she looks to me like an older sister but I see her as my twin. How we can be so in sync it’s wild. We just look at each other and we know what each other is thinking. Growing up with Ellie and navigating the teenage years and life so far in the 20s has been a gift. She’s my partner in crime and is down to do absolutely anything, and has taught me to let loose and not take life too seriously. Ellie is a constant source of inspiration and she is always pushing me to become the best version of myself and I love her for that. She’s my bestie for life and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.
I hope these past two posts show you that someone in your life loves you for who you are! It’s natural for humans to see what we think is the ‘worst’ in ourselves rather than looking at all of the amazing things about us. If you could see yourself through your best friend’s eyes, how do you think they would describe you? A question I ask a lot in my therapy sessions is- ‘would you talk to your best friends the same way you talk to yourself?’ So whenever you feel the anxious thoughts taking over, think about what would you say to your best friend, and say that to yourself! Wow, we should take our own advice more… story of our lives!
Thanks for reading, lots of love,
Bec x
